Our capstone aims to create an inflight space where passengers can explore their curiosities and feel immersed into the flight journey. In the beginning, we were inspired by our own feelings of curiosity when flying thousands of miles above. We thought about the times we looked out the window in awe only to be met with no explanation or answers as to what we were seeing. There was an unexplained beauty of how it was possible to, in a short amount of time, pass through so many cities, each with its rich culture and unique geography. We felt that the current flight experience did that feeling and curiosity injustice. We began with an observation which was that current flight trips emphasize the destination over the journey where the goal was to take travelers from point A to point B, with nothing in between. People prefer journeys where they have flexibility and the opportunity to explore. Journeys that accomplish this well are journeys by foot, cruise, and car. Flights are quite the opposite when it comes to providing those experiences, however, only above a flight can one pass through so many cities at once. This special occurrence gives us a unique opportunity to explore new forms of inflight entertainment that satisfy curiosity. Below is a new inflight experience and we made sure that we utilized curiosity as a motivating factor for using our product. By implementing different perspectives such as the city highlight, live plane cam, and satellite view, there is a view for everyone. Once the passengers have their interests peaked, we send them to the discover tab where they can manifest their curiosities even more by playing around with location pins on the map and scrolling through cards. Passengers can look for featured experiences or just a topic that interests them. If a video catches their interest, they can try it and a flight attendant will assist them with the experience. Experiences include food, beverages, inflight activities, souvenirs, music, and more. With Below, we hope that passengers will feel that their time flying was well spent by seeing the gradual changes in culture and geography as they fly. We also hope to pique their interest about the world underneath and take them on a mini vacation right in the seat.
