We designed an adventure quest for kids and parents to complete together as they tour the newly renovated Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture. We wanted our app to be built on understanding the Burke's values, the current experience, and the models for learning and engagement in children. If any technology has to be present in the museum, it should add to the central focus of the Burke, which is to be “alive.” We designed quests that prompt families to work through tasks together, discuss related topics, and scavenge to collect badges and earn explorer titles. Parents and kids may be asked to take a peek behind the glass doors, chat with other explorers in the field, or find hidden artifacts. As activities are completed, explorers will collect digital stickers and badges until they become a master explorer. Ultimately, we wanted to design an experience that sparks curiosity and fuels learning through exploration, interaction, and play.
