Most media has taught me to cringe or to be embarrassed by my experiences during puberty. Especially in queerhood and girlhood, the hegemonic society around me led me to be a critic of myself, like many others, and of our bodies/the bodies of those around us at an extremely young age. In this project, my goal is to show support and love to that part of myself— to give them a metaphorical hug. In every detail in Theybie, I focused on making something that I would have ogled at as a kid roaming through the bookstore, hence the Jennifer's Body cover. I chose to print it relatively small to feel more like a secret diary, where the baby queer in me could run wild. I asked friends and community members questions over Instagram that responded to what they wish their younger self would've known, memories about being a kid and a part of (or later joining) the LGBTQIA+ community, and about the drama of being a teenager. This project was one of my favorite things I have created in design because I had the opportunity to see old memories more positively, primarily through delving into my collage archives from my childhood. It's still exciting holding this book because it's full of secrets and silly moments and has to be the most personal project I have ever done.
